As the world marks the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, the Director of Akoni Care Foundation, Deborah Agbonika, has emphasized the need for greater investment in girls’ personal hygiene and health education.
In a statement released to commemorate the day, Agbonika highlighted the foundation’s commitment to empowering young girls through access to proper hygiene, health awareness, and self-dignity.
“At Akoni Care Foundation, our mission is rooted in empowering girls through access to proper personal hygiene, health education, and dignity.
“We believe that when a girl understands her body, has access to clean hygiene products, and feels confident in her wellbeing, she is better equipped to pursue her dreams without shame or barriers” he said.
She further called on parents, educators, policymakers, and community leaders to prioritize girls’ health and hygiene education, stressing that such investment builds confident and capable women who can drive positive change in society.
Agbonika urged continued efforts to create safe and supportive environments where every girl can thrive healthy, confident, and unstoppable.
The International Day of the Girl Child, established by the United Nations, celebrates the power and potential of girls worldwide and seeks to address the challenges they face in achieving equality and empowerment.
