The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appealed to the federal government to call the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to order, to stay within the precinct of the law in the discharge of its statutory responsibility.
Comrade Adeiza Momohjimoh the NUJ Kogi State Council made the appeal on Thursday in Lokoja during a symposium organised by the union to showcase the seven years administration of the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
According to him, the fixation of the agency on Kogi state government and some individuals in the state is already making mockery of the agency’s mandate of fighting corruption in Nigeria.
Comrade Adeiza Momohjimoh , said people are beginning to believe that the motive of the agency’s operation in Kogi state is that of witch hunt and political vendetta, appealing to the federal government to call the agency to order before it derailed from its core mandate of fighting corruption.
“This distraction is not only unnecessary, but also aimed at putting the development in the state to anticlockwise movement” the NUJ Chairman stated.
Speaking on the achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration in the last seven years , Comrade Momohjimoh , said the current administration was able to secure, bridge, plaster and paint the wall of the previous administrations through his numerous legacy projects executed within seven years.
He noted that Governor Bello’s effort in revamping education, health sector , infrastructure development , youth and women empowernment have endured him to the people and appealed to the governor to more for the people in the remaining months of his administration.
