Magongo Development Associations (MDA) has charged the people of Magongo community in Ogori-Magongo local government area of Kogi state to shun any act of violence and intolerance that can disrupt the peace and tranquility that existed in the community.
The president general of the association Prince Akpata Jordan Alaba gave the charge on Saturday at Magongo community during the occasion of Magongo 2023 Owiya-Osese cultural festival organized for young girls who were initiated into womanhood.
Alaba who described politics as a service to humanity, said election of president, state and national assembly have come and gone, urging the people of the community to see themselves as one irrespective of political affiliations.
He charged the celebrants to be of good character and behaviour as they enter into the status of womanhood
In his remark, Mr Pious Awuru the elder brother of Barrister Stephen Anthony Awuru whose Daughter Miss Mosiforigin Esohe Destiny Stephen participated in the 2023 Owiya-Osese cultural festival urged traditional rulers, political leaders and the people of Ogori and Magongo communities to nurture and sustained the recent peace and harmony between the two communities for the purpose of development.
According to him, Ogori and Magongo by virtue of history are children of one parent, wondering why the two communities have been at loggerheads for a long period of time without considering the development of the communities.
“We are happy the way and manner things are going on now peacefully between the people of Magongo and Ogori-Magongo. It has never happen before to see the people of Ogori coming out to grace an occasion organize by the people of Magongo but this year many of the leaders of Ogori grace the 2023 Owiya festival.
“This is a sign of unity that eluded us for long and I am urging the two communities to sustain this feat because there can never be development in an atmosphere of crises, violence and hatred. We are all one and we should always avoid anything that can cause disunity among us in the interest of the development of the two communities” he stated.
He described Owiya-Osese as an ancient culture and tradition that bid all the people of Magongo together and admonished the participants to preserve their womanhood and struggle for brighter future.
“The festival is very important to us. There is no fetish activities attached to the festival it purely celebrating the young girls who are moving into womanhood” he stated
