FCE Okene At The Verge Of Becoming Federal University of Education

A bill seeking for the establishment of Federal University of Education, Okene has passed first reading at the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

The bill sponsored by the Senator Yakubu Oseni representing Kogi Central senatorial district seeks to upgrade the Federal College of Education Okene into a full fledged University of Education.

Speaking with Newsmen, Senator Oseni said the College has been in existence for over four decades , noting that the institution has produced qualified many NCE graduates, stating that “it is long overdue to award Bachelors in Education”.

Senator Oseni who lamented that presently, the country is backward educationally and the effect of it is obvious in the nature of graduates, noted that, in addressing this, it has to begin with the quality of teachers produced thereby producing sound graduates.

The Lawmaker maintained that, to encourage sound education, it has to start with the quality of the teachers produced to encourage quality education.

He noted that the conversion and upgrade of the institution is an added advantage to the people of his constituency and the state in general as it will afford them the opportunity to further their education after their NCE programme within the institution immediately.

Senator Oseni said the upgrade of the institution is just a step up as there are no cost implications in the upgrade, noting that the effect will only be on the nomenclature.

Speaking on the ASUU strike, the Lawmaker encouraged Nigerians to look inward and learn from the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state to get it right in terms of education to avoid incessant strike by the institutions.
