—–Trains 200 women on liquid soap production
As part of it’s Corporate Social Responsibility, the Navy Out Post (NOP) in Idah local government area of Kogi State has offered free medical treatment to over 1000 residents of the host communities.
The medical rhapsody includes free medical consultation, health education, screening of hepatitis B, C and HIV, sugar level test, high blood pressure test, deworming of children, free eye check-up and distribution of medicated eye glasses as well as distribution of treated mosquito nets.
The second phase of the rhapsody is the skill acquisition programme designed to train women in liquid soap production and basic computer database awareness.
Speaking at the end of the two days programme in Idah on Tuesday, the Commanding Officer NOP, Commander Nelson Oyagha said the free medical rhapsody was a directive from the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abbas that the Naval Out Post should continue to build on the existing trust the communities have given Nigeria Navy by hosting the Naval base.
According to him, as part of it’s routine and crucial mandate, the Nigerian Navy remains committed to carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities within its host communities.
He pointed out that the responsibility has become even more significant in light of the prevailing security challenges across the country.
“To stay connected, maintain relevance, and strengthen the confidence of our people, this year’s CSR initiative could not have come at a better time. It serves as a reaffirmation that the trust reposed in us by the community remains valid and highly valued” he said
The Commander, added that the NOP Idah has been committed to ensuring that Idah community and it’s environs are safe for the residents to enable them carried out their business and daily activities without fear of being attacked.
“In addition to our effort in delivering our social responsibility we decided to again organize this free medical rhapsody considering the fact that health is wealth. This programme is slated for two days so that many residents of this areas benefit from the programme.
“Aside the medical rhapsody, we have also trained over 200 women through our skill acquisition programme in the area of liquid soap production
and basic computer database awareness as a means of improving their economic power.
“This initiative is aimed at improving community well-being, fostering collaboration, and reinforcing the Navy’s continuous commitment to serving and supporting its environment.
“With the new leadership under Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Nigerian Navy continues to deepen its engagement with communities, strengthen civil–military relations, and uphold its dedication to service, security, and nation-building.
“This year’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a testament to that renewed drive and collective resolve to make a positive difference where it matters most” he stated.
Speaking on security, Commander Nelson Oyagha, said NOP in synergy with other sisters agencies will continue to work to ensure Idah community is safe for the residents.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman Idah local government area Alhaji Alilu Alfa who was represented by one of his staff Mr Yakubu Oyibo thank the Navy Commander Idah Out Post for his contributions toward the development of Idah local government.
“I want to say that we are very proud of Navy Out Post Idah and we will never take this kind gesture rendered to our people for granted.
“Aside this laudable effort of ensuring that the people of Idah enjoy medical treatment at no cost, the Navy in collaboration with other security agencies have done remarkably well in ensuring that Idah and it environs are safe and peaceful.
“That again we will continue to appreciate them at all time. I am using this medium also to sensitize our people on the need for them to be security conscious. Whenever they see something they should say something, so that the security agencies can do their work perfectly.
He urged the beneficiaries of the two days programme to ensure that they use the drugs giving to them to improve their health status.
One of the beneficiaries, Deaconess Theresa David in her words of appreciation, said “I am highly impressed by what the Naval Out Post Idah did in this Naval base for the masses who ordinarily does not have the financial strength to access quality health care.
A Fulani herder, a beneficiary of the free medical rhapsody who brought his two wives for medical check-up thank the Navy for organizing the programme.
He appealed to the Commander to sustain the programme so that people like them who does not have asses to hospital because of their locations can take the advantage of the free medical rhapsody to take care of their health.
