Over 500 widows in Kabba-Bunu/ Ijumu federal constituency in Kogi state have benefitted from empowernment programme organized by the immediate past Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly Prince Matthew Kolawole.
Speaking during the empowernment programme held on Monday in Kabba, Kabba-Bunu local government area of Kogi State, Prince Kolawole, said that he was motivated by the spirit of given to the less privilege in the society.
He added that as a person that had worked under some privilege women, he dimmed it necessary to always prioritize the welfare of women especially the widows in the society.
The immediate past Speaker who described the empowernment programme as very dear to his heart , stated that over 500 widows across Kabba-Bunu / Ijumu federal constituency would benefit from the empowernment.
“This empowernment programme is the third I am giving out to widows in my constituency this year. I did one empowernment programme in the month of March and second phase in May and now in December 2025.
“I am distributing rice, cloths, beans and 10,000 naira and other palliatives to each of the 500 widows that across my federal constituency.
“I lost my wife four years ago and even before her death we have been doing this empowernment programme together and since I am still alive I will continue to give back to my people because their joy is my joy and their comfort is my comfort” he said.
Prince Kolawole who is a chieftain of All Progressive Congress and a House of Representatives aspirant of the party in the forthcoming 2027 election, described the current representative of Kabba-Bunu Ijumu federal constituency as a “misplaced priority”.
He lamented that at a season when politicians with the heart of the people are at home with their constituents for Christmas, our man at the House of Representative has instead traveled abroad, enjoying himself and watching football matches without recourse for the welfare and well being of his people.
He stated that as a former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly he enjoyed an organic grassroots follower-ship, highlighting his effort and humanitarian services such as paying school fees, medical bills, skill acquisition programmes, provision of jobs for the youth among others, noting that “it has made him the best fit to represent the constituency come 2027”.
He assured that he would win the APC ticket and defeat the current lawmaker, who he said, “got the mandate on a platter of gold”.
Speaking further, Prince Kolawole praised President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s recent efforts in the fight against insecurity and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s work in making Kogi State safe for the citizens.
